Our Faith & Beliefs

Rooted in Faith. Growing in Grace. Living in Love.

At Hope Lutheran Church, we believe faith is a journey we walk together. As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the South Dakota Synod, we seek to be inclusive, caring and a transformative comuinity that loves, serves and connects with alll. Our faith is centered on God's grace, the teachings of Jesus Christ, and the belief that everyone is invited to experience God's love.

What We Believe

God's Grace Is for Everyone

We believe God's love is a gift, freely given—not something we have to earn. Through Jesus Christ, we experience forgiveness, hope, and new life.

Faith Is a Journey

We don't expect anyone to have all the answers. Questions, doubts, curiosity, and discovery are all part of growing in faith. We learn together through worship, Scripture, conversation, and relationships.

Everyone Belongs

We believe the church is more than a building or a Sunday morning service. It's a community where people of all ages and backgrounds can find connection, encouragement, and a place to belong.

We Are Called to Serve

Our faith doesn't stop at the church doors. Jesus calls us to love our neighbors, care for those in need, seek justice, and share God's love through our words and actions.

Love. Serve. Connect.

These three words guide who we are and how we live out our faith at Hope.

LOVE — Sharing God's unconditional love with one another and our neighbors.

SERVE — Putting our faith into action through compassion, generosity, and service.

CONNECT — Building meaningful relationships with God, one another, and our community.

What Does It Mean to Be Lutheran?

Lutherans are Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and emphasize God's grace as the foundation of our faith.

Our tradition grew out of the Reformation led by Martin Luther more than 500 years ago. At its heart is a simple but powerful message: We are saved by God's grace through faith, not by anything we do to earn it.

We gather around God's Word and celebrate two sacraments:

  • Holy Baptism — God's promise of grace, forgiveness, and new life.

  • Holy Communion — A sacred meal where we receive Christ's presence, forgiveness, and grace through bread and wine.

We believe Scripture is central to our faith and that God continues to work through us as we learn, grow, and serve together.

You Are Welcome Here

Whether you've been Lutheran your entire life, come from another faith tradition, or are just beginning to explore what you believe, we invite you to come as you are.

Bring your questions. Bring your curiosity. Bring your whole self.

There's a place for you at Hope.
