Director of Choirs: Sanctuary & Handbell

 Hope Lutheran Church is seeking a Director of Choirs to lead our Sanctuary and Handbell Choirs. This 9-month salaried position leads weekly rehearsals and directs both ensembles in worship.

Key Responsibilities

• Select and prepare music for the Sanctuary Choir and Handbell Choir in coordination with worship seasons and themes
• Direct the Sanctuary Choir in worship approximately 2–3 times per month and the Handbell Choir approximately once per month.
• Lead weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals for both choirs from September through May
• Lead brief rehearsals before worship
• Program and direct choirs in seasonal and special services as scheduled
• Communicate rehearsal and worship schedules clearly with choir members and church staff
• Maintain the choir music library and choir robes
• Purchase appropriate music within the approved budget
• Provide music to accompanists in advance
• Coordinate with the Music Coordinator when guest musicians are needed.
• Attend Worship Committee meetings as needed

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic and dependable musician who enjoys working with volunteer singers and handbell musicians of all abilities. They should have experience directing musical ensembles, strong communication and organizational skills, and an appreciation for the role of music in worship.

Paid sick leave is provided for three Wednesday rehearsals and two Sundays.
