Dorothy A. Harvey, 83, of Sioux Falls died Wednesday, February 04, 2015 at Golden Living Covington Heights. Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Cliff Ave. with Private Family interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. Dorothy A. Jacobson, daughter of Ole and Emma (Moe) Jacobson, was born March 6, 1931 in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up there graduating from Washington High School.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Bob Harvey on June 16, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD.
Dorothy was a charter member of Hope Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge. Dorothy lived by the motto of Family, Friends, and Faith. She loved spending time with her family, and she always blessed everyone she knew with a warm smile.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 63 years, Bob Harvey, Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Jeffrey (Sandy) Harvey, Las Vegas, NV; two daughters, Janis (Priamo) Mena, Gainesville, FL, and Julie (Scott) Christie, Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter; one sister, Olive Olsen, San Juan Capistrano, CA; and several other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers, Edwin, Alvin, Merland, Howard, Donald, and Ernie Jacobson; two sisters, Bernice Jacobson, and Margaret Houck.

Sioux Falls native, Donald R. Hawks, age 89, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 under home hospice. Memorial services will be at 11:00am Friday, February 20, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church with burial to preceded services at Woodlawn Cemetery with full military rites. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7pm Thursday evening at Heritage Funeral Home, Sioux Falls.
Don was born on November 25, 1925 to Ralph C. and Carrie (Johnson) Hawks. He served in the US Navy during WW II on the USS Morris DD 417. He was a kamikaze survivor. On January 1, 1949 he was united in marriage to Donna Davis, they were married for 66 years. He was a partner with Automotive Machine beginning in 1953, retiring in 1995.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Donna; his son Bruce (Dawn Wheeler); his daughter Elaine (Gary) Hoover; 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Rachel, Mark, and Austin; 10 great grandchildren; a sister Eldora Hayes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Brian, brothers Gordon, Melvin and Robert, 2 sisters, June Bennett and Sylvia Quest, and his half sister Stella Nelsen.

Robert “Bob” D. Engen, age 82, died on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls with burial to follow at Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 3:00 PM on Wednesday at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Robert “Bob” Dean Engen was born on January 23, 1933 to Olin and Evelyn (Lux) Engen in Carroll, Iowa. Bob received his education in Volin, SD graduating from Volin High School. Following high school Bob was drafted into the United States Army and honorably served in the Korean War. Upon his return from the service Bob attended and graduated from Yankton College.
Bob was united in marriage with Helen Thorson on October 1, 1953 in Volin, SD. The couple enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage and was blessed with four children. Bob first began working in the implement business while living in Yankton before he made his home in Sioux Falls becoming a landlord. He also worked as an insurance agent, claims adjuster, and figured income taxes for many years.
Bob’s greatest enjoyment in his life came from selling at swap meets and flea markets. He loved going to auctions, rummage sales and collecting old cars. Above all he loved spending time with his family.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of nearly 62 years, Helen Engen of Sioux Falls, SD; son: Bryan Engen and his wife, Belinda; daughter, Brenda Engen, all of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren: Sara Schuldt and her husband, Quincy, Michael Engen, Bryan Engen Jr. and Ashton Engen all of Sioux Falls, SD; six great-grandchildren: Trey, Hayley, Kaydon, Presley, Trystan, and Madelyn: one brother, Donald Engen and his wife, Janet of Detroit Lakes, MN; one sister, Sherry Fuller of Gilbert, AZ; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Clare Thorson and his wife, Sue, Marilyn Bring and her husband, LeRoy, Bill Knodel and his wife, Gladys, and Becky Delvo and her husband, Gary; special friends, LeAnne Warwick and Vicki Jorgenson; loving grand-dog, Lucy; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Olin and Evelyn Engen; daughter, Linda Diane Engen; son, Steven Craig Engen; and sister-in-law, (whom they helped raise) Faye Knodel.
Howard G. Hawks, age 70, of Sioux Falls, died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at his home. His funeral service will be at 10 AM, Thursday, June 4th at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at 10 AM, Friday, June 5th in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. There will be visitation from 5 to 7 PM Wednesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, and visitation from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Kuhler Funeral Home in Huron. Memorials may be directed to Hope Lutheran Church of Sioux Falls, Avera Home Hospice of Sioux Falls, or Messiah Lutheran Church in North Platte, Nebraska.
Howard Gordon Hawks was born February 20, 1945, at Sioux Falls to Gordon and Hazel (Hubbell) Hawks. He grew up in Sioux Falls and moved to Huron with his family where he graduated from high school in 1963. He attended South Dakota State University for one year and on January 1, 1967, he married Shirley Lundberg at Huron. Following their marriage they lived in Huron, North Platte, Nebraska, and in 2009 moved to Sioux Falls.
Music was an integral part of Howard’s life and he enjoyed singing throughout his life. He sang with a number of groups, including “The Troubadours” while in high school and “The Statesmen” at SDSU, in a quartet, and in various church choirs. Howard was a member of the Hope Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Jesse Sterrett; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Hawks; and a brother-in-law, Royal Hoyer.
Left to cherish the memories are his wife Shirley of Sioux Falls; his son, Jon (Peggy) Hawks of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; his daughter, Jodi (Monte) Sterrett of Huron; four grandchildren, Joshua, Jordon, and Jerrod Sterrett and Ryan Hawks; two brothers, Alan Hawks of Sioux Falls, and Dennis (Sandra) Hawks of Sioux City, Iowa; and one sister, Karen Hoyer of Miller, Missouri.

Hazel Maxine Erickson, 97 died Friday in the Good Samaritan Center.
Hazel Erickson was born in Sioux Falls, SD on Sept 29, 1917 to Henry and Teresa (Blanchard) Erickson.
She lived in Sioux Falls, SD her entire life. Hazel worked in various offices before accepting a position in School of Nursing at Sioux Valley Hospital where she worked for many years.
She was a charter member of the Hope Lutheran Church.
Hazel volunteered countless hours to the church, Sanford Medical Center and Sunnycrest Retirement Center. She sewed numerous quilts for overseas, knitted caps for children and received the President’s Call to Service Award for volunteer service. She was an avid reader with a very inquiring mind.
Hazel was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by many cousins and dear friends.

A graveside service will be held on 10:00 am Tuesday, June 9 at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.

Albena L. Reinke, 80, of Sioux Falls, died Monday, June 8, 2015 at Dougherty Hospice House. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM,Thursday, June 11 at George Boom Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Albena L. Sparks was born February 6, 1935 to Hector and Marie (Horlyk) Sparks in Yankton, SD. She attended Washington High School in Sioux Falls and graduated in 1953. She then attended Nursing School at Presentation College in Aberdeen and she graduated in 1956. She married Robert Reinke, June 1, 1957, in Sioux Falls. To this union, three children were born: Cheryl, Joel and Leah.
Albena became a registered nurse and an OB nurse at McKennan Hospital for 31 years, she retired in 1997. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl (John) Cronberg , Luverne, MN, Joel (Terri) Reinke, Ellston, IA, and Leah Steever, Lennox, SD; brother, Daniel (Carole) Sparks, Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Margaret Varns and Judith Horlyk, all of Sioux Falls, SD; 4 Grandchildren, Jeff (Amanda) Cronberg, Meghan (Anthony) Parker, Shelby Steever and Alex Steever; one great-grandson, Hunter John Cronberg; and a host of beloved family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Sparks; and sister, Jane Horlyk.

Darlene Steinfadt, 87, of Sioux Falls, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Darlene Vipond was born in Sioux County, Iowa on February 3, 1928 to John and Anna (Rice) Vipond. She moved with her family to Hudson, SD and that is where she lived when she was confirmed and received her education, graduating from Hudson High School.
On March 12, 1946, she was united in marriage with Orland Steinfadt. The couple lived in Hudson where they raised their children, Catherine, Douglas, Timothy and Deborah.
Darlene was a stay at home mom while her children were growing up, and was involved in their many activities. She taught Sunday School, Bible School, was a Den Mother and involved with the various school activities her children were in. She later worked for several business places in the area and in 1985, they moved to Sioux Falls where she worked in the accounting department at Western Surety/CNASurety for 15½ years. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and was involved in various women's activities.
She is survived by her two daughters, Catherine (Mark) Evanson of Carmel, IN and Deborah (Scott) Nielsen of Brookings, SD; her daughter in law, Peggy Steinfadt of Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one step-great grandchild; two sisters, Doris (Mer) Winterfeld of Ogden, IA and Alice (Fred) Miller of Omaha, NE; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orland in 1997; 2 sons, Douglas and Timothy; one brother, Jim Vipond; and one sister, Louvina Bradley.
Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Friday at Hope Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
